I inherently agree with your statement about male vs. female friends...exceptfor my explanation in the comments below about why I can't have male friends anymore, unfortunately. Maybe it's because I live in the South? I don't know.
I, too, forced myself to understand the humans mostly by mimicking them, but I couldn't quite go deeper than that. Messing with people's minds isn't really my cup of tea, I just figure they want to be left alone like I do, but I do like to mine interesting conversations from people who I think aren't very interesting from the outside.
